BIOTAL bilge cleaner (B) 3000 is a biological product to be used as a pre treatment to significantly improve the performance of the Oily Water Separator by starting the process of separating the emulsified oil working through a combination of specially selected bacteria and a bilge friendly surfactant.
It is to be used in wet bilges and Oily Waste Holding Tanks as a preparation in advance of their pumping to the Oily Water Separator.
It can be used against all petroleum hydrocarbons encountered in ships bilges.

How it works:

The cleaning elements

The cleaning surfactant in BIOTAL bilge cleaner (B) 3000 lifts and emulsifies oils and greasy deposits so that the removal of hydrocarbon contamination occurs in the rinsing process
The BIOTAL bilge cleaner (B) 3000 cleaning surfactant is also quick breaking: that is; when the solution reaches the bilges, the emulsion is unstable which helps the oil separate out from the water.
“Cleaning” and “breaking” quickly are critical capabilities, since surfactants that do not break quickly will cause emulsification in bilges. This will have a detrimental knock on effect for the OWS, as emulsified oils reaching it can cause serious problems with its operational efficiency.
The cleaning surfactant in BIOTAL bilge cleaner (B) 3000 has been formulated after screening many hundreds of formulae in order to obtain the best compromise between emulsifying properties for effective cleaning performance and quick break capability for OWS friendliness.

Biodegradation:

The product contains bacteria with two capabilities:

The first function is to degrade a wide variety of surfactant molecules which can enter the bilges from cleaning operations or spillages. Once these surfactants are degraded, the emulsion is no longer stable and normal oil and water separation processes can occur more effectively.
The second function of the bacteria is to degrade any emulsified oil that is already present in the water.
In addition to the biodegradation capabilities already described, BIOTAL bilge cleaner (B) 3000 has additional biodegradation properties to work in bilges to help the difficult separation process in preparation for transfer to the OWS.
BIOTAL bilge cleaner (B) 3000 has specially selected additional bacteria screened for their ability to degrade the heavy contamination of hydrocarbons in the bilges. A special carrier is used to maintain their properties prior to use.
These bacteria require special nutrients in order for them to develop and carryout their degrading task. These are contained in the nutrient sachet which is dosed at the same time as the bacteria sachet.
